-What materials do you use for your paintings ?

I use watercolour on coldpressed, mould-made watercolour paper ( 300 g ).

I also use acrylics, gouache, ink, cotton wool, sand and other interesting materials.

All my abstract paintings are acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

-What's your painting process ?

I usually work on watercolour paper or on canvas. I build up some parts of my paintings in layers, some areas are painted wet-in-wet.

All of my figures are based on sketches from life and from imagination ( which is from memory, actually). I don't like to use photographs as reference for my figures but I love to make sketches from life.

Actually I start with a sketch from imagination, then I ask a friend or my husband to pose for me. I make a few very quick sketches and after that I draw the sketch again from imagination. I also make additional sketches of hands or other difficult parts.

For backgrounds I also prefer sketching from life, but if I don't have the real thing to study, I look at pictures, to get an impression of the texture and structure.

It will be abstract in the end anyway : )

Other than that, I don't really have a painting process, I simply start and see how it goes.

-How long does it take you to finish an illustration ?

It depends. Some paintings are finished within one or two days, but usually it takes a bit longer. The sketches take me one or two days until I got them 'right'( which means , until I like them ). For large and more complex paintings I need at least 7 days up to 2 weeks to finish them in colour (sometimes even more, especially, when I ruin it and it has to go into the bin). I would say, I need around 2-3 weeks for a large watercolour. This, of course, includes several breaks, I don't need that many hours to finish a painting, but I prefer to put it aside for a while to be able to look at it with fresh eyes.

Charcoal and pencil drawings usually take me no more than a few hours and a sketch is usually finished within minutes.

-What does FIURIN mean ?

It's a very old German word and it means 'flaming red and shiny'.

-Can I use your artwork/pictures of your artwork for........?

Please click HERE to find out more about copyright and usage of my artwork.

-Why are there so few abstract paintings in your gallery ?

This website is mostly all about my illustrations.

My abstract paintings just don't look good on the Internet. That's why I prefer to show the originals at art shows and simply don't bother to take pictures of them anymore.
